If you had told me 16 years ago that the raft of 30 ft lengths of bamboo I was navigating down the
Mae Tang River would soon be baby clothing, I would have never believed you. In fact the mere mention of the word “baby” would have been grounds for me to throw the one who uttered it into the river. Although things have changed for me all these years later, a wife two kids and a mortgage, I still have a relationship with the very bamboo I rode down that jungle river so many years ago. Believe it or not this relationship comes in the form of baby clothing and accessories.
I discovered how incredible bamboo is as a fabric when my children received blankets from grandma one Christmas. Through the years of abuse, the fabric wore like iron, held its colour and is soft to this very day. Since then our family has purchased bed sheets, underwear, T shirts, hoodies and more all made in whole or in part with bamboo fibres.
It was because of this less adventurous relationship, I began looking for and carrying bamboo products in my children’s clothing store, currently we have some great blankets in stock waiting to be delivered.
